Making PEDs is evolving: welcome to Scale-UP Making PEDs
Making PEDs is taking its next step.
Scale-UP Making PEDs builds on our results to support the implementation of Positive Energy Districts at scale.
How we got here
Making PEDs was an international Driving Urban Transitions (DUT) project coordinated by the Catalonia Institute for Energy Research (IREC). Running from November 2023 to May 2026, it set out to research and test Digital Twins as a tool for mastering complexity and supporting decision-making in cities on their path to climate neutrality.
What the next three years will bring
Over the next three years, the project will:
Integrate reliable local data into urban systems
Enhance cross-sector modelling
Establish decentralised governance models
Engage stakeholders in co-designing climate-neutral districts.
Five Urban Living Labs
These approaches will be tested and validated in five Urban Living Labs across Europe: Linz (Austria), Bærum (Norway), Civitavecchia and Grottaferrata (Italy), and Sant Esteve de Palautordera (Spain).
As each city moves through its PED regeneration work, we'll publish the results here, from local data integration to governance models to stakeholder engagement outcomes.
